Our Senses and How They Serve Us

Our Senses and How They Serve Us!

We are learning more about our senses, the teleceptors in our head as well as hands, how well do they serve you?

You have two eyes to see with. Did you realize that while you can see, your vision enables you to see things as they will be, instead of seeing things as they are. Even a person who does not have sight, they too have vision/ideas that awaken deep within their being.

We have two ears to hear with, and yet, hearing is different than listening. Listening is actually taking an action so you might say hearing is a sense while listening is a skill you develop with time. The difference between them is paying attention.

As the wolf said in Little Red Riding Hood, the better to smell you with. Our nose is directly linked to our sense of taste. How curious to realize our two nostrils travel into the back of our throat to transport our breath into our lungs. Most animals use their sense of smell to alert them to danger. A real saving grace.

The mouth with upper and lower portions of your jaw, the better to eat with, enables you to nourish and support your life. Your jaw can help adjust the tension in your body.

Your sense of touch with your hands, enervated with so many sensitive nerve endings will bring the external world into you. How soft and gentle can you be, to be able to distinguish the difference in feeling something.

In an Awareness Through Movement (ATM)® lesson, you can begin to discern through easy, subtle differences in movement; it can change your state of mind. Awaken your senses, your curiosity for real growth where you can relish and embrace the new and different with a sense of interest. Learning is a powerful tool, and Feldenkrais teaches you. Often just the unknown, other than our familiar, is enough to trigger new emotions. You can chose to remain in your old habits or learn how to shift into your better self.

I have always loved this quote from Dr Feldenkrais as in my own experience I’ve realized this so often that it creates a pleasurable chuckle that I am awakening and connecting the dots.

“What you truly learn best will appear to you later as your own discovery!” Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais

I hope you will join me this week for any four of my ATM classes on Zoom where we will continue to explore finding ease in awakening our senses.

No tricks, all treats this week.

Warmest,

Peggi
