Finding Neutral
Finding Neutral
“Our ability to recover is our greatest quality.”
The words of Moshe Feldenkrais, share how life is a variable process. There is a dance between our feeling of stability and mobility, balancing between the two. Stability is a perception of steadiness, often it has a sense of feeling grounded, centered and safe. Mobility should have a sense of freedom, awareness and movement where you can move easily in any direction. I call the balance of stability and mobility “finding neutral,” the place where each has a consistent consequence.
When you use will-power to do something, that’s pushing into resistance. This pattern of resistance becomes an unconscious act, you tune out the efforts you normally use in movement. Is it that you are not aware you can do it without force? Finding alternate ways to organize yourself is learning how to become more fully aware of your body and mind working together. In teaching Feldenkrais, the point is to show subtle differences so you can compare which gives you more stability and mobility. It shines a light on an area you didn’t see. Sometimes it’s necessary to experience a slightly different way to move, so you can recognize there are choices to get to where you are finding neutral.
Come explore and recover an easy way of finding choices, explore the beautifully choreographed Awareness Through Movement (ATM)® lessons. Explore new possibilities with more ease, it’s right there in front of you, awaiting your curiosity. It is simple and complex at the same time. Learning should be a pleasure, but you have to be willing to take the initial steps.
“There is a crack, a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in!” – Leonard Cohen
I invite you to join any of my weekly ATM lessons where you learn the steps to moving free and easier. Each lesson is about an hour, you lay on a mat in your home and through a Zoom session I offer you instructions and guidance. The goal is for you to pick up on the learning process in order to work on what you learned by yourself. By participating in a class you get a recording of the session to replay at your convenience. Consult the calendar link below to watch the schedule. If you are planning on attending, please reply so I can email you the lesson link.
My work with the Feldenkrais Method is my passion. I am constantly learning more and improving. Join me on my journey.
Warmest,
Peggi
