Discerning and Distinguishing Differences!
Discerning and Distinguishing Differences!
Being and doing; what’s the difference? You, like me, I’m sure have experienced an artist or actor where we feel something so deep within, they are not acting, rather they are the person they are presenting. We can tell the difference, and it’s one way feels more real, sincere and the other way, while doing a good enough job of playing the character, it’s not the same when you compare the one that becomes that persona versus the other that is acting. This is another way we can compare differences. And this is what we do when exploring Awareness Through Movement®.
Before you launch into the lesson, take the time to settle in, find yourself, your contact with the surface you are resting on. Feel how you rest, or, are you still working at trying to rest? Begin to recognize muscular work your body is using. This is your brain still activating the neurons to fire and work. You will begin to notice how to allow this to activate a bit more so when sensing it, you can let go. This is a process of our internal listening without judgement, quieting, settling and listen to your breathing as it is the first indication of additional effort. The question to be aware of, is it appropriate and necessary in this circumstance or might this be too much work? We learn to optimize this skill in order to recognize and distinguish differences. It is fundamental to begin this process where the differences are more subtle, the consequences of this additional and unnecessary muscular effort enable you to begin to recognize this parasitic work to let it go and create another option.
“Ultimately we become aware of most of what is going on within us mainly through the muscles.” Moshe Feldenkrais
There are three Awareness Through Movement (ATM) lessons this week to explore and play with developing this distinction to refine your skills and improve how you feel. Even when we feel good, it’s amazing how much more this nice feeling spreads, it just keeps getting better and better.
Hope to see you on the floor and if any of you are experiencing knee issues, well this coming Saturday the 24th I will be working with the Feldenkrais Access Team in the 5th offering of Tool Kit – Knees! Here’s another option to learn it’s just not our knees that are the problem, but connecting the dots across our body so a more efficient movement travels through!
Look forward to seeing you on the floor this week!
Warmest,
Peggi
