The Importance of Turning

The Importance of Turning

When we become stagnant due to a lack of movement in any direction, this presents itself in response to our beliefs and thoughts. Whether due to fear, pain, or confusion, we impose effort that impedes growth and improvement. Being able to sit with any confusion or, let’s speak of it as a mystery, without knowing, is embodied research fueled by your curiosity, rather than always being told what to do and then how.

“Suffering begins when you mentally label a situation as bad. That causes an emotional contraction. When you let it be, without naming it, enormous power is available to you. The contraction cuts you off from that power, the power of life itself.” – Eckhart Tolle

Being able to turn yourself around to see better what’s around you, this improved rotational movement keeps you healthy and highly functional as you rely on it for everyday activities, such as walking, running, playing music, sports, dancing… the list is endless. Pause as you stand or lie down, whichever is most comfortable for you to begin with, and slowly roll or turn your head to one side. Then, slowly listen to how you breathe, return through your middle, and roll or turn your head to the other side. Notice differences in ease and comfort, and what else was allowed to come along as a passive participation instead of doing. If on your back and you bring your feet to stand, this shift in position of your feet, does it awaken some passive responsiveness that supports rolling or turning your head? What’s the difference? When you begin to find an easier pathway to turn towards or away from anything less than optimal, you begin to find other pathways open up. Simply listening to the quality of ease and fluidity of movement, and attention to your breathing, is the gift in learning how to create other patterns that affect how you think, feel, and move.

I invite you to join me for Awareness Through Movement (ATM) classes or private sessions, whether live, hands-on, or virtual guided learning sessions, to begin exploring other options for moving forward. When necessary, how to turn yourself around, and away from what creates any emotional contractions that surely express themselves in the way you organize yourself. Turning towards or away from some influence, the ability to notice what you’re doing, especially when there are so many unconscious patterns that can trigger and awaken sensations and feelings, you can find a way to notice sooner than later and turn towards or away from whatever is creating anything less than your preference and find other pathways. Options are there before you, simply pause, listen to your breathing and your thoughts and where you can let go of any unnecessary holding that free yourself to move in the direction you prefer going towards.

“The aim is to create conditions under which learning takes place, and in which a person feels free!” Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais

I hope to see you this week. If you’re not currently receiving my weekly ATM class links, please reach out. It’s always a pleasure to include anyone curious and interested. Please reach out if you want to experience what a private session offers, one tailored specifically to you instead of a template.

I hope I’ve earned the privilege of your time and attention, and look forward to when you are ready to join in.

Warmest,

Peggi
