Take Stock, Identify Ideas, Habits, and Insights Worth Carrying Forward

Life goes by fast, and the best way to enjoy it is to savor the journey.  Life is a dance I share, and it’s not always easy, or what we anticipated. How to be present and find openings that create other options, so we can continue to learn, grow, and move through, instead of feeling stuck or running away from problems?  Avoiding this often complicated process never resolved the issue; consequently, further down the road, you’ll find that you’re still having to cope with something that is now more advanced.  Taking action sooner rather than later, through your diligent analysis, helps you address concerns before they become significant problems.  You need to go through it to reach the other side, or you might find later, down the road, that you turned away from the learning without ever discovering the root cause.  Things take time to develop and process information, so permit yourself to make mistakes; without them, how would we learn?

We all believe at one time or another that something that was once true might always be the case. Even when there is discomfort, recognize the symptoms and be curious not only about the symptoms, but also about the root causes of the sensations experienced.  Learning how to take action to improve is necessary. It serves each of us so much better when we begin to ask better questions and act before we cross the tipping point.  This is often elusive to us, yet obvious to another witness observing.  Many of our cultures have conditioned us to dissociate from discomfort, to ignore and push through resistance, expecting that to fix a problem.    Learning to ignore symptoms or blindly trust authority should be reconsidered, as it is a conditioned response and often not the best choice when you give yourself more options and ask better questions.  Become your own detective instead of tuning out to sensations that are giving you, in the beginning, subtle and significant information. This is the process of addressing a concern before it develops into compensatory patterns that become wired into your nervous system.

Our beliefs are so fundamental that we rarely question them, even when new evidence and sensations challenge our hardwired habits. The most important thing is to notice when we’re defending a belief so fiercely that we shut down curiosity.

Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear – not absence of fear.”– Mark Twain

A fundamental question I ask my students is to notice what they notice: sensations, feelings, breathing, contact with a surface…  Each of these sensations provides feedback and information on how to reconsider not only what you’re doing, but, more importantly, how.  The Feldenkrais Method® provides a nonjudgmental way to recognize our habits and patterns, pause, turn inward to sense and feel ourselves, and inquire whether these sensations indicate another way to be.  Feldenkrais is a dynamic learning system of how we learn.  Not only humans but also all life: we need to slow things down, be uncertain about what we know, and be curious enough to ask better questions.  In this learning system, we draw your attention to make comparisons to sense and feel not only what our habits are, but how we create new, improved habits, patterns to compare what feels nicer, easier, and allows us to have more potency, vitality, and improved health, no matter where we start.

I welcome and invite you to join me in any of my offerings: Awareness Through Movement (ATM)® classes online, private classes live or virtual, as well as table time, the hands-on, Functional Integration (FI) ® sessions that are created specifically to your needs to enable learning and improvement from the very first experience.  Then, I’m there to support, suggest, and guide you through the process to achieve an improved experience, so that once you feel it, you realize it’s possible.  I’ll be there to support you in this process of learning how to enhance our lives through moving with greater ease and comfort.  This enables individuals to continue growing and learning, thereby improving their quality of life, because even slight improvements in mobility yield exponential benefits.  It’s a process, and I welcome you to join me in my commitment to improvement, regardless of the concerns or issues you are facing.  Together, we can learn to identify and advance insights into how to achieve greater well-being.

“The aim is a body that is organized to move with minimum effort & maximum efficiency, not through muscular strength but though increased consciousness of how it works.  “To learn, we need time, attention, and discrimination; to discriminate, we must sense. This means that in order to learn, we must sharpen our powers of sensing, and if we try and do most things by sheer force of will, we shall achieve precisely the opposite of what we need.”  Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais

I wish you all the warmest and enjoyable process in learning this holiday season and new year.  Focus on what you want, allow that to guide your thoughts, and notice how a morphic field of energy begins to take form and things change.

I hope I’ve earned the privilege of your time and attention this holiday season, and look forward to your reaching out when the timing works for you.

Warmest,

Peggi
