Process of Listening and Directing

The Process of Listening and Directing your Attention

Today let me tell you about learning the Art of Living! This is a daily process. Instead of always doing things the exact same way, the way it’s wired into your nervous system, you can create more possibilities. Allow me to qualify that possible means comfortable and easy enough so that you will want to re-explore and bring something new or forgotten back into your life.

We hear something – do we remember what we heard? What’s the difference from hearing and listening? There is a difference. There is a way to recognize something maybe hopeful, desired as well as known. You can redirect, or change a little to create a different perspective, directing your attention to another frame of mind. It’s about having other options and plans to give you choices when the hoped for outcome changes. How do you direct your attention to a bigger picture, to inquire and learn what will serve you best.

Awareness Through Movement (ATM)® group lessons offer this enhanced perspective. You can also come to my studio for a live hands on sessions called Functional Integration (FI)® or attend private virtual sessions I call Guided Learning, that enable a student, in their own home, to be mentored and guided on how to listen and find more optimal ways to experience body movement.

Learning movements, not just your familiar, habitual way of acting. By slowing down the process to not only hear the directions or absorb the gentle touch or guidance of a seasoned practitioner, this gives the body time to listen internally and create an image, an idea of what is being asked with a gentle inquiry as to what’s possible. Herein lies the benefits of finding other choices and possibilities to select how to redirect your attention to any desired task or outcome in life.

I believe that the unity of mind and body is an objective reality. They are not just parts somehow related to each other, but an inseparable whole while functioning. — Moshe Feldenkrais

I am offering only 2 ATM lessons this week since I am traveling to celebrate my MIL’s 94th birthday. What a magnificent outcome of living a life rich with learning and still giving. I hope you will join me this week or any week for ATM classes where you will receive the audio file to download and explore anytime you wish. If you are not currently receiving the weekly class links, simply reach out and I’ll add you to the mailing.

Enjoy your summer, celebrate the 4th of July to be grateful for our independence. Never, never give in or give up, just keep listening and redirecting your attention to what you want, find other pathways to get there and then keep on dreaming and moving forward.

the dog days of summer upon us here in my neck of the woods!

Warmest,

Peggi
