Play and Problem-Solving

Play and Problem-Solving

“Letting your mind play is the best way to solve problems.” – Bill Watterson, American cartoonist

I’m returning from a month away, working in the Ann Arbor I training program. The work was both fulfilling and rewarding, and it allowed mistakes to occur from which we learn.  There were many ways to compare one way of organizing thoughts and musculoskeletal patterns to another to determine where something felt lighter and easier.  As long as there is no discomfort, but rather a sense of unfamiliarity, different from our habitual patterns, this is a more straightforward way to awaken to this newer, kinesthetic way of learning that awakens our internal sensations and feelings.

You don’t need to join a Feldenkrais Training program unless you develop an interest and curiosity. Each of my students and clients who come to work with me is in a similar process that helps them discover newer patterns to begin comparing and integrating greater efficiency into their daily lives.

Children play, and from their joy and enthusiasm, they learn.  They’re not afraid of making mistakes, unless someone imposes their personal beliefs to correct them.  This often interferes with learning and disrupts their sense of awakening, making it difficult for them to navigate unfamiliar situations.

Through our individual process of playing, we find ways to enhance our lives and find solutions that will serve us moving forward.  Continuing this process of playing, learning, and problem-solving is crucial for improving our lives, regardless of any challenges or setbacks that may arise.  Not being afraid of change and learning better how to learn, not just from accrued academic knowledge, but also from the wisdom of listening deeply within to find what feels congruent and resonant instead of always being told what to do.

We are intelligent beings, and it is beneficial to continue growing and learning. Play makes it easier and is always more fulfilling.  You can change your beliefs to create new options and possibilities, allowing you to continue growing and moving forward. Consider how you don’t have to eliminate your habits; instead, continue to play and learn how to create newer, more optimal ones that will inform you with greater ease.

I will return to my practice the 2nd week of September as I take a much-needed and deserved week to relax and hike in Utah.  I hope you will join me for Awareness Through Movement (ATM) classes, Functional Integration (FI) sessions, and private virtual Guided Learning sessions.  Whether working on the road or taking time off to play and restore, I am always available to chat and respond to your inquiries.  Reach out, and I look forward to seeing you in September.

I hope I have earned the privilege of your time and curiosity, and I wish you all the best.

Warmest as the seasons are shifting, and another season begins to awaken.
