Good Stress
Good Stress
Finding balance in life is a dance. Stresses are a reaction to the demands made upon us in our daily life. Some of these stresses are good, often referred to as “eustress.” They are the positive side of stress and enhance our sense of well-being. On the other hand stresses that are negative, and how they affect us, are called “distress.”
The difference between helpful and harmful stress is largely a matter of perception and our bodily response. We interpret these reactions and responses. They can often take control of our mental, emotional and physical state impacting every one of our organs. Distress can create prolonged, chronic anxiety, depression which can affect all our biological systems. Digestion, sleep issues are also affected and with continually high stress levels, this leads to poor health.
Being able to find the way to a place of balance, finding neutral and continue forward even though stress is a daily experience of living, this brings us back to a relaxed baseline. We are living and learning, creating more options and possibilities to explore a sense of soothing and calming from the disturbance that too much distress causes.
The Feldenkrais Method® gives us an easy way to tap into our own learning and finding ways to reset our nervous systems and balance to that neutral or what Mayo Clinic terms “a relaxed baseline.” You don’t live in neutral, but you can traverse through it daily to help reset yourself. This is the gift I offer myself daily. My mission is to teach each one of you who are interested in learning more how this is possible.
This week as we complete the month of October in a long Indian summer, chilling into November, the month of Thanksgiving, I am offering my regular 4 afternoon ATM classes. Hope you will join us on the floor or explore with the audio file on your own. Noticing your reactions and responses and finding options that created more of the positive side to enhance each of our well-being in this topsy turvey world. If you’re not currently receiving my weekly ATM class links, please reach out as it’s always a pleasure being inclusive.
I believe that the unity of mind and body is an objective reality. They are not just parts somehow related to each other,
but an inseparable whole while functioning. — Moshe Feldenkrais
