The Benefits of Somatic Learning

The Benefits of Somatic Learning

Our mental and physical beings are intertwined in a mind-body connection. When you return to sensory-motor connections directed by your awareness, your nervous system becomes the key player in your development. The Feldenkrais Method® is this process, enabling you to learn through your body. Directing our attention with curiosity to observe and explore, making comparisons, enabling you to continually grow and improve.

If a belief limits us, there may be reasons, and our beliefs can change. Get curious if you can create more flexibility to consider what and how you used to move your body to learn and continue growing. When this process ceases, so too does your ability to find greater flexibility and freedom in how to think, feel and move.

“Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.” George Bernard Shaw

The Feldenkrais Method, as it was offered by Moshe in his day, is truly perceived as Dr. Feldenkrais intended through your process. Therefore, instead of being his method, through your own experience and explorations of the basic lessons, it becomes your method of moving forward — it’s your process.

As you develop the skills in this body of learning through movement, it’s most important to be able to recognize each of our own limitations. Honest recognition of self-limits and exploring your capacity to interpret the lessons. You learn to re-interpret the lessons to chart your life’s direction.

These lessons, known as Awareness Through Movement (ATM)®, can be presented in a new and playful way. Each individual can convert the questions or puzzles into their lesson as a self-process to enact solutions to problems. By improving one aspect of your life exponentially, you improve your overall well-being. It is a process of self-learning that enhances growth and maturation and creates more choice and independence.

“In my lessons the student learns to listen to the instructions while he is actually carrying out an exercise and to make the necessary adjustments without stopping the movement itself. In this way he learns to act while he thinks and to think while he acts.” – Moshe Feldenkrais, ATM pg 160

It is my hope that I have awakened your curiosity and invite you to join me for ATM classes as well as private sessions whether live, hands on known as Functional Integration (FI)® or since Covid, virtual Guided Learning sessions that are tailored to your specific needs. Reach out with your questions or to receive links for classes or book a session. Have your own experience to sense and feel for yourself what’s possible through Somatic Learning.

I hope I’ve earned the privilege of your time and attention, and I look forward to connecting with you when you are ready.

Warmest,

Peggi
