Moving Forward, Imagine The Possibilities
Moving Forward, Imagine The Possibilities
Your brain has three basic functions. Science continues to pursue the focus of what makes a brain. To learn we have three brains, each located in the spheres of our head, our heart housed in our chest, and in our gut and pelvic region.
Each produces neuroreceptors, neurotransmitters, and hormones that communicate throughout our nervous system. Proprioception is knowing where you are in space, where you are in relationship to anything outside of you. Interoception arrives from sensing within, while Enteroception comes from the outside, moving into your system.
How do you begin to sense and feel the effects? Whether positive or negative, notice how you interpret this information. From this place of noticing, begin to take action, create a distinction from which you will act upon, and move into an open field of possibilities.
When you can begin a process to think more systemically, this process of finding more options and possibilities opens up. You might notice that help comes from those who touched your life. Bring them with you wherever you go. Whether past, present or future, they are with you to help guide and support you.
Whether a need or inspiration to support you moving forward. These sensations are subtle and yet very significant, as many of us will share our own personal experiences of this reality. It is real, but not something you can touch. Rather, you begin to sense and feel deep within this awareness awakening.
No matter what you feel, find a way to quiet yourself and turn inwards to listen to these subtleties. Get comfortable, maybe start by lying down and feel supported so you can let go of unnecessary work in gravity.
Can you allow your brain to quiet from the noise to notice your breathing and thoughts? Allow pauses and then begin to move slowly and gently to feel how your skeleton cancels out gravity. Let the bones do the work you can depend on to hold you up, while your brain and the musculature all work in harmony for skeletal support.
Maybe begin to move in a way where you are turning or rotating, where did you think to start? Maybe roll your head from side to side and notice if that movement travels elsewhere? Now roll your pelvis and see how that movement travels through you. Did something awaken in your chest and then your head, or is there muscular work resisting the gentle traveling of movement, whether up or down your body?
The Feldenkrais Method® begins with developmental movements, as we all did in utero, generated by your mother. Then, after birth, we began our own apprenticeship in movement that facilitated our brains to activate. Let’s return to this process.
“Watch your thoughts, for they become your words. Watch your words, for they become your actions. Watch your actions for they become your habits. Watch your habits, for they become your character. Watch your character as this becomes your destiny.” Margaret Thatcher
I will be offering two Awareness Through Movement (ATM)® lessons this week to enjoy playing with gentle rotation lessons. Reach out to receive links for classes or schedule a private session to help support you in your process of finding more possibilities to move towards. If you can imagine, you can find a pathway moving forward. I invite you to reach out and begin to imagine the possibilities.
“Through awareness, we can learn to move with astonishing lightness and freedom at almost any age.” Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais
I hope I’ve earned the privilege of your time and attention, and look forward to connecting when you are ready.
Warmest,
Peggi
