Free Choice

Behavior is not a personality or a character trait. It is a belief and serves a purpose. Now the question becomes, have we so habituated to that one behavior that wired in to our brain that we don’t have free choice?

“Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.” George Bernard Shaw

The Feldenkrais Method® whether approached through Awareness Through Movement (ATM)® classes or private, hands on (Functional Integration/FI®) as well as virtually guided sessions created just for you and your concerns, each approach offer you in a sense a playground to explore safely in. Just because you’re at a playground doesn’t mean you have to explore all of the games or equipment. You get to chose where to start and how to play. Approach any experience, especially one that you notice in the beginning is new and maybe a bit daunting with innocence. Add in curiosity, patience, being present in that moment of any exploration. Then how possible is it for you to have a true lack of pushing and forcing to do it to allow other permutations to evolve and awaken? Begin to explore successive approximations instead of falling into the gym rat game of reps and sets, so you check it off of your to do list. When and where for you does true learning and integration awaken?

Our lives are an interconnected web, inseparable to all of Life! Therefore when you bring your curiosity to learn more, what draws your attention and how do you chose the things that you gravitate to? Is there an interest, maybe a passion that instead of you chose it, it found you, awoke within you to start to explore and learn more? I’m inquiring, asking questions in the hope of awakening your internal process.

Here’s what I suggest, see if there is any resonance within you. Find within you what you like, you have a passion or preference for. It’s a gift and not necessarily something you pick but maybe more this is a passion hiding deep within you. Your passion can, if you so chose, become a calling. You have to be alert to listen to these subtle and significant sensations that often live deep within us. Your passion can give you direction and whether this is or becomes your life work, career, hobby or calling, it gives you purpose and fulfills you. I can attest to this as it fuels you and doesn’t really feel like work.

“The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.” — Steve Jobs
