Choice Creates Freedom

Choice Creates Freedom

In the hustle bustle of daily life there are many things we all tend to overlook. Our focus becomes more outside to all the stimulation around us. Work on becoming more aware of your internal dynamics, sensations, biases. How fast are you racing through your day, can you shift the tempo, pacing and redirect to reflect on better options? From this place, choice evolves and from choice we create freedom in movement.

For a moment, notice your hands. Did you realize they are connected to your involuntary emotional state. Your hands are richly enervated by your brain that awakens and activates neurons which mean learning is being stimulated. Ever noticed how when closing and squeezing, sometimes clench your hands to external stimulation? This happens in our jaw and breathing too. By becoming aware of these patterns and how they are intrinsically interwoven into how we organize ourselves, we can begin to shift how we do what we are habitually doing, we can open to what we are holding onto.

Explore for a moment a gentle folding or closing of your hands as if to begin to make a fist, then soften and open, what do you notice? The movement of unfolding your hand will spread to create greater ease and comfort throughout all of you. Just this soft attention begins to awaken more internal sensations that too often are overridden with the activation that not only wires into our hands but also reflects the information that came through our eyes. Your eyes and hands are wired in together.

Where your eyes go, you will go, your hands will follow. And where do your hands connect, it’s not just to your arms, can you begin to find the connection into your pelvis with the pathway through your spine? Interesting how we are all so interconnected whether thinking from the top down or bottom up. Can you follow the connection like a thread to feel all of you even when you are reaching, grabbing, pulling something with your hands, where are your eyes too in this exploration?

I hope you will come join me for 3 ATM lessons this week to awaken choice in how each one of us can better chose to organize ourselves with greater ease, comfort and freedom in how we think, feel and move!

“There are no teachers … there are only people learning and people learning how to facilitate learning.”— Moshe Feldenkrais, D.Sc

See you on the floor on the heels of returning from NYC bringing another round of new Feldenkrais practitioners into the fold.
