Asking For Help

We are not islands unto ourselves, and yet too often we overlook how important it is to share with others we trust and feel their support—being able to share and learn that we are all in the same boat, just at different times.  Reaching out for support is incredibly important and enables us all to feel the importance of each other’s presence. To give, we also need to learn how to receive.

“We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same.”-Carlos Castaneda

It’s difficult when we bump up against our conditioned learning and realize we need to change something that is no longer serving us well.  Having friends to lean on is crucial, as we are not Atlas, trying to hold up the world and all our issues by ourselves.  Having another person we can bounce ideas off of, someone we can trust, is so vital for growth and moving outside our known habits.  It’s also essential when we are confronting habitual patterns to take baby steps into the unknown to sense and feel if this is a better direction to head in.  This is when trusting your innate intuition, a subtle yet significant indication that it’s time for something to change.  Change is the only constant in life, and what better way to navigate it than when we can feel the support of others to help us in our learning process.  There’s a sensory experience, and then how to make sense of this awakening to take an action that leads to improvement and empowerment.

“My purpose is to allow people to move closer to actually being creatures of free choice, to genuinely reflect individual creativity and emotion, freeing the body of habitual tensions and wired patterns of behavior so that it may respond without inhibition to do what the person wants.” Dr.Moshe Feldenkrais

Being able to continually listen within and from others to discern when we need to re-evaluate what we’re doing, as so much begins to fall into habits and patterns that take over.  This is when it’s best to pause and ponder: where do I want to go from here? What are the things and ideas that empower me? Then, take an action, and you are in the process. Your process is a progression of little actions, and sometimes it begins by asking a question or allowing another to ask a question without needing to respond right away.  Take time to think about this information and allow it to simmer and percolate, finding the best approach to follow moving forward.  It’s all about learning and progressing.

I share these thoughts as yesterday, while having a specific Awareness Through Movement (ATM)® to teach, I asked if those on the screen had any particular feedback to share regarding what they wanted.  Their responses focused on how to support their nervous systems in transitioning from a state of fatigue, discomfort, and stress, and how to return to a parasympathetic nervous system to rest and restore.  It was trusting that all the lessons over decades I have been playing with, I created a new lesson, derived from Moshe Feldenkrais’ huge repertoire of ATM lessons that the theme of combining Breathing with Bell Hand and now how the foot responds in a similar folding and opening, adding in the tongue in the mouth exploring like a baby that their requests and the results arrived—being present, trusting and allowing created the difference that made a real difference for the better.

I welcome you to join me, whether for my four afternoon ATM classes or private sessions tailored to your personal needs, whether live, Functional Integration (FI)®, or Guided Learning, private ATM sessions just for you. Each of these offerings comes with either the audio recording or, often, I create an ATM to share post-session, continuing gentle and playful explorations throughout the week to help support and reinforce the newer, more optimal choices for continued learning.

Please reach out as I am quick to respond and can send class links or chat as to how working together can create a catalyst for improvement and welcomed change.  It’s always a pleasure to connect and learn from all.

I hope I’ve earned the privilege of your time and attention this week and look forward to working together when the timing is right.

Warmest as I marvel at the beauty of autumn leaves that caress the trees and now cover the ground.
